title: Poopaya vs plop: which gut-tracking app should you get? (2026)
description: A founder's honest, feature-by-feature comparison of Poopaya and plop — price, what each app actually tracks, and who each one is really built for.

Short version: if constipation is the actual problem, get [Poopaya](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/poopaya/id6755532969). If you're managing IBS, IBD, or Crohn's and want to correlate bowel movements against food, stress, and sleep, get plop. I built Poopaya, so you already know my priorities and where my incentives sit. The comparison below uses this same criteria and was checked against both App Store listings on September 9, 2026.

_Written by Mike, Poopaya's founder. I've lived with constipation for 13 years and built an app to finally get on top of it ([here's that story](/founder-story)). This article is educational, not medical advice._

## The core difference

plop is built to correlate a lot of things at once: food, medications, stress, sleep, and mood. It runs that through what its own materials describe as ML-driven pattern recognition, aimed at people managing IBS, IBD, or Crohn's who want flare-up warnings. Poopaya stays narrow on purpose. It's built specifically around constipation, including the days nothing happens at all, without asking you to log the rest of your life alongside it.

Neither approach is wrong. It depends on whether you want a correlation engine or a fast, focused log.

## Choose Poopaya if…

You're dealing with constipation specifically, possibly medication-caused (GLP-1 drugs are the case I hear about most right now, see [GLP-1 constipation](/articles/glp-1-constipation)). You want to log the days nothing happens, not just the days something does, in under 10 seconds. You want your medications tracked with a real dose ladder rather than a generic "took a med" entry. And you want the free tier to actually be useful: full CSV export is free, no paywall, so you can hand a doctor real data without subscribing first.

## Choose plop if…

You're managing IBS, IBD, or Crohn's and want to correlate bowel movements against food, stress, sleep, and mood, not just log them in isolation. You're comfortable feeding a tracker a lot of fields in exchange for pattern-recognition and flare-up warnings. And constipation isn't your only concern. plop tracks the full range from constipation to diarrhea.

## The main cons of each

Poopaya is the newer app here: a 4.8 rating from a small handful of reviews, not the roughly 1,500 plop has behind its 4.7. It doesn't track food, stress, sleep, or mood, and it has no correlation engine. If you want that breadth, plop covers it and Poopaya doesn't.

plop's real trade-off is depth versus focus: it isn't built around constipation specifically, and logging a no-movement day isn't the feature it's designed for. Its subscription ladder is also wider and less transparent upfront ($2.99–$4.99/month, $29.99–$34.99/year) than Poopaya's flat pricing. A few recent reviewers have also flagged ads appearing even for existing users, though plop says core logging stays free either way.

## When to see a doctor

Neither app diagnoses or treats anything. They're both logs. Talk to a healthcare professional if you notice blood in your stool or black, tarry stools; constipation or diarrhea that persists despite sensible changes; severe abdominal pain; or unexplained weight loss. Bring your log, whichever app it's from. It makes that conversation more useful.

## Frequently asked questions

**Is Poopaya or plop better for constipation?**
Poopaya. It's built specifically around constipation: logging the days nothing happens, medication context, and free CSV export with no paywall. plop is a broader IBS/IBD tracker built to correlate food, stress, sleep, and medications together. It can log a no-movement day, but that isn't the feature it's designed around.

**Which is cheaper, Poopaya or plop?**
About the same at the top end, but plop's ladder is wider. Poopaya Gold is a flat $3.99/month or $29.99/year. plop's subscription runs $2.99–$4.99/month or $29.99–$34.99/year depending on the tier shown at signup.

**Does plop track medications too?**
Yes. Medication logging is one of plop's features alongside food, stress, and sleep. What it doesn't have is Poopaya's drug-specific dose ladder for GLP-1 medications (Ozempic, Mounjaro, and similar). plop logs that you took something, not where you are in a dosing schedule.

**Which app is simpler to use day-to-day?**
Poopaya. It's a fast, single-purpose log: shape, urgency, effort, done. plop asks for more context (food, stress, sleep) because that's what its pattern-recognition engine needs to work. More fields can mean more insight, but only if you keep feeding them.
